Louis Roederer Champagne 242 Collection
Type: Champagne
Grape(s): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir
Wine Region: Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, Côte des Blancs; ChampagneWinemaking: Sustainable, vegan
Tasting Notes: Bright, pale gold; fine, persistent bubbles, typical of well-crafted Champagne. Fresh citrus (lemon, lime), green apple, peach, nectarine and pear. Subtle hints of white flowers and mineral notes. Due to aging on lees, you may notice toasted almonds, brioche, and a touch of vanilla or buttery pastry. A subtle chalky minerality that adds to the wine’s elegance and length.
The Estate: The estate is one of the most renowned Champagne houses in the world, known for its premium quality and heritage. Founded in 1776, originally under the name Dubois Père & Fils. In 1833, Louis Roederer, who inherited the estate from his uncle, renamed it to its current title. Under Louis Roederer's leadership, the Champagne house flourished. He expanded the vineyards and focused on producing high-quality wines. By the end of the 19th century, Louis Roederer was exporting Champagne globally and had a significant presence in Russia.
Roederer uses a combination of stainless steel tanks and large oak casks for fermentation. The wines are aged in their extensive cellars for several years to develop complexity and depth. This is the house’s flagship non-vintage Champagne, blending several vintages to create a consistent and balanced wine. They have implemented organic farming practices across their vineyards and are moving towards biodynamic certification.
Suggested food and wine pairing: Light starters like oysters, smoked salmon, and sushi. Poultry, especially roast chicken or turkey, seafood dishes, and even light pasta dishes, cheese (soft, creamy cheeses like Brie or Camembert, as well as tangy goat cheese), not too sweet desserts (fruit tarts, especially with citrus or apple, and almond-based pastries).
