Tasting Notes: Wine is known for its rich and complex flavor profile, typical of high-quality Bordeaux-style blends. Flavours of dark fruit (blackberry, blackcurrant and plum), hints of herbs like thyme or rosemary, along with subtle spice notes such as cloves or black pepper. 15 months on oak barrels is giving vanilla, cedar and smoky aromas. Well-integrated tannins, providing structure and a velvety texture to the palate.
 
The Estate: Ornellaia was founded in 1981 by Marchese Lodovico Antinori. The estate's vineyards were originally planted with Bordeaux grape varieties, reflecting Lodovico's vision to create Bordeaux-style wines in Tuscany. The estate spans over 240 hectares (almost 600 acres) of vineyards, located in the heart of the Bolgheri DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) zone. The vineyards benefit from a unique microclimate, with proximity to the sea providing cooling breezes and moderating temperatures, ideal for grape cultivation. The soil composition is diverse, featuring a mix of clay, gravel, and loam. This terroir, combined with the Mediterranean climate, contributes to the distinct character. They stand as a benchmark producer in Tuscany, showcasing the potential of the Bolgheri region to produce world-class wines that rival those of Bordeaux and other renowned wine regions.
 
Bolgheri benefits from a unique microclimate and diverse soil types, contributing to the distinct character and quality of Ornellaia's wines. The Ornellaia winery is not officially certified as organic. However, the winery places a strong emphasis on sustainable viticulture and environmental responsibility. 
 
Suggested food and wine pairing: It goes well with grilled or roast meats (beef, pork, chicken), pasta with tomato-based sauces, grilled vegetables (mushroom, aubergine, peppers, zucchini), charcuterie plater or cheese (parmesan, Pecorino, Gouda).
