The Estate: The Delas Frères winery, renowned for its rich history and quality Rhône Valley wines, was founded in 1835 in Saint-Jean-de-Muzols. They are known for high-quality wines across several appellations. Crozes-Hermitage benefits from a mix of soils, including granite, clay, and alluvial deposits, which contribute to the complexity of the wines. The climate is continental with Mediterranean influences, providing ideal conditions for the Syrah, Marsanne and Roussanne grapes. The winery is known for traditional winemaking practices combined with modern techniques. They focus on expressing the terroir of each vineyard site through their wines. They are under the ownership of the Champagne house Louis Roederer since 1993. Louis Roederer has invested in the winery, modernizing facilities while maintaining the traditional winemaking ethos.
This wine can age gracefully for several years, developing more complexity over time. Les Launes Blanc is made primarily from Marsanne grapes, which are known for fuller wines.
Suggested food and wine pairing: Goes well with appetisers like shrimp cocktail, crab cakes or bruschetta with creamy toppings, grilled or roasted fish dishes (in buttery or creamy sauce). Think of dishes like grilled sea bass with lemon butter sauce or seafood risotto, chicken and turkey dishes (with herbs, garlic, creamy and mushroom sauce), Asian dishes (particularly those with mild spices and coconut-based sauces - like Thai green curry), pasta with creamy sauce (carbonara), vegetable gratins, creamy vegetable soups, or dishes with a touch of spice like vegetable curry, salads with creamy dressings or those with nuts and fruits (Waldorf salad), mild and medium-intensity cheeses (Gruyère, Emmental, or young Gouda).
