Tasting Notes: The color is deep, with a garnet hue deepened by purple tinges. The nose shows seductive whiffs of crushed black fruit-dark cherries, blackberries and blackcurrants-that evolve in the glass to reveal slightly woody and smoky notes, together with a hint of coffee. Spices, and especially grey pepper, add lift and harmony to this already rich aromatic palate. The wine is fresh and lively in the mouth, with persistant flavors and good length. It is solidly built around a good tannic structure, true to its origins. The texture is silky and the balance fine.
The Estate: The winery was founded in 1835 by Philippe Delas and Charles Audibert, and passed on to Philippe’s two sons (one of which married Charles’ daughter). They changed the name of the maison to Delas Frères in the early 1920s and established this name as one synonymous with high quality. In 1993 Delas Frères became part of the Champagne Louis Roederer group, which shares a similar family owned history and pursuit of excellence. 2020 saw the completion of a new state of the art winery and house in Tain Hermitage where all of the top appellation wines are vinified and aged, underlying their commitment to producing the highest quality wines. Situated in the northern Rhône Valley, the Hermitage appellation is renowned for its exceptional terroir, characterized by its granite soils and favorable climate, which contribute to the unique qualities of the wines produced there.
The winemaking techniques at Domaine de Tourettes emphasize traditional methods, with a strong focus on quality and the expression of terroir. This includes meticulous vineyard management, hand harvesting, and careful vinification processes.
