The Estate: The château was formed in 1992 when Jean-Claude Rouzaud, the owner of Champagne Louis Roederer, merged two Cru Bourgois estates: Château Picard and Château Beauséjour. This merger was intended to create a single, more prestigious wine estate. They produce white and red wine but they primarily known for its red Bordeaux blend. The wines are typically rich, structured, and capable of ageing, reflection the terroir of Saint-Estèphe with its gravelly and clayey soils. The estate practises traditional Bordeaux viticulture and winemaking techniques, with careful vineyard management and a focus on quality. The winemaking process involves fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and ageing in French oak barrels.
As a Cru Bourgeois, Château Haut-Beauséjour is positioned just below the prestigious Grand Cru Classé estates in terms of classification but often offers excellent value for money. This red is one of them. Saint-Estèphe appellation offers robust and complex character of Bordeaux.
