Tasting Notes: The wine has a fine colour, dark and deep with a purple-violet tint, and an open, expansive bouquet containing suggestions of oak subtly mingled with red fruit and blackcurrant. Roundness combines with a solid tannic structure on luscious ripe fruit and pleasant, well-integrated oak. The rich flavours and full tannins are expressed in a long, harmonious, complete finish, revealing a wine with considerable potential.

The Estate: The estate has a rich history dating back to the 18th century. Originally known as Château Mouton d’Armailhacq, it was acquired by the Baron Philippe de Rothschild in 1933, who later shortened. The name to Château d’Armailhac. It is still part of the prestigious Rothschild portfolio. The estate benefits from the expertise and resources of one of Bordeaux’s most respected wine families. It is classified as a Fifth Growth (Cinquième Cru) in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. This classification recognises the estate’s quality and historical significance. Situated in Pauillac, the estate’s vineyards are planted on the well-drained gravel soils typical of the appellation. This terroir is ideal for the grapes grown in the region. They employ meticulous vineyard management and traditional Bordeaux winemaking techniques. The grapes are hand-harvested, and the wine is aged in oak barrels, a portion of which are new, to enhance complexity and structure.

The estate continues to innovate and improve its practices, focusing on sustainability and quality. The wine is a classic style of Pauillac, deep, complex, with ability to age gracefully. 1998 was a good year with some real gems.
