Wine and a BBQ

What better way to celebrate the Bank Holiday weekend in style? #bankholidayweekend

Spring is a season of renewal, of growth, and of endless possibilities. After months of huddling indoors, May feels like a proper start to summer. There's something primal and irresistible about the sight and smell of barbecue. Barbecue isn't just a method of cooking—it's a cultural phenomenon, a social gathering, and a celebration of flavors that vary as widely as the regions that claim them. Barbecue has a way of bringing people together and igniting passions that run as deep as the coals beneath the grill. All of us here at Wine and the Wood love to BBQ, getting us ready for the Summer months!

BBQ

Wine can be a fantastic complement to barbecue. The key is to find wines that can balance and enhance the richness, smokiness, sweetness and bold flavours. There are varietals of wines which work well. We need acidity, tannins and structure.

If we want acidity which cuts through the richness and cleans the palate between bites, we need grapes like Sauvignon Blanc or Rose. Those wines provide a refreshing contrast to the savoury flavours of grilled meats. We have some great options like South African Moloko Sauvignon which is full of tropical fruit, green apple, lemon and lime; Peterson’s Grove from New Zealand which is deliciously refreshing with flavours of gooseberries and tropical fruit or our Own Label from Chile which is the lightest option with refreshing notes of pineapple, peach and lemon. Shop Wines here >> Shop Wine | Wine And The Wood | UK

In the realm of wine, few styles evoke the spirit of spring and summer quite like rose. Whether you're a seasoned aficionado or new to the world of wine, there's something irresistible about the allure of rosé. You can explore the diverse array of styles, flavors, and regional expression with wines like 19 Crimes Revolutionary Rose from Spain which is dry with notes of strawberry, grapefruit and candy;  Highbridge White Zinfandel from California which is full of cream flavours like strawberry, raspberry and white peach or you can try sparkling wine from Italy, Bedin Vino Spumante Rose which is fine and delicate on the nose, it shows summer fruits and notes of ripe wild berries.
